Does anyone have any creative ideas for peer editing?
I'm having my students bring in their profile drafts on Monday. Frankly I was always bored when we had to peer-edit, although I think it's an important aspect of the writing process.
Perhaps I was bored because my instructors never provided peer-editing guidelines, or a series of questions to ask ourselves each time a new paper was presented. The conversation would invariably turn to the latest video games or preferred beer of choice.
Any ideas?

Hi Ruth,
I have certain reservations with peer-editing this early. The comments given are often superficial or unhelpful. This isn't because the the students themselves are dumb, but rather because they haven't had the training or the experience we have. I think your proposition to give them a list of questions would be very helpful. In my class, I am planning to do a couple of classwide peer reviews of in my computer lab in order to get their feet wet. Hopefully they will develop a sense of what is desirable in both the paper and as a peer reviewer.
James -
You said "classwide peer reviews of.." what in your computer lab?
I also want to add that because of time constraints, I am only having them do intros.
james,
peer reviews of what in your classroom? I think you omitted something in your post.
Hey Katie
Sorry for the confusion. I'm planning to put their intros up on the projector in the computer lab. The tentative plan is 25 minutes of me guiding the workshop and 25 minutes of small group review. If I don't feel that they are ready, I might go all 50.
